Photography
This is my brain dump of stuff learnt so far in playing with the Nikon D40 camera, which I bought in December 2008.Camera Reset
Press and hold the two 'green' dot-marked buttons for two seconds to reset all the camera shooting parameters.Image Quality
There is not a huge lot of difference between normal and basic JPEG modes. If you are going to shot RAW, then the RAW + basic option is useful as you still get a view of the picture just taken on the screen.
Tripod
If situation allows, a tripod can provide a much more stable platform and VR functionality can also be switched off.The D40 has no wired remote capability so you have to use the ML-L3 IR remote. The receiver for this is on the front of the camera but its wide reception angle allows you to take shots whilst being to the side of the camera.
I bought mine for a very reasonable £15 from Argos
