Fisher Fury R1 Ownership - November 2011
1st November
|
I bought these R1 clocks a while back, with the intention of using them for diagnostics. They are the only way to read the error codes from the ECU. I don't intend to mount these permanently in my car. They are too heavy for that! :-) They are purely for diagnostics.
|
|
They have a 16-way connector socket on the back and I bought a plug to match it from Yorkshire Engines.

The R1 wiring diagram shows the original wiring to the plug on the header harness (I never bought this bit of the loom as I never planned to use it).
|
Four of the pins on this connector are not used at all and I only need to connect up four (possibly only 3) myself:
- Black/White = Earth from ECU (
- Brown = +12V from ignition switch
- Yellow/Blue = Serial data line from ECU (pin 38)
- Yellow/Black = Tachometer feed from ECU (pin 4)
Having wired these 4 wires to the clocks connector like this I initially got the error code 17 displayed on the clocks. This relates to the EXUP valve which is missing from my car. I plugged it in and everything was fine, with no error codes shown :-) I never got round to installing a dummy circuit to fool the ECU into thinking the EXUP valve is in place but I might just do that now.

This is just mad! Here we are in mid-November and I'm having the most fun :-) For anyone that's interested, this was shot on an iPhone 4 using the Pro HDR app.

It's been nearly five years of Fury R1 ownership now and it's got me thinking. Just what could ever replace my current car?

Excellent day spent with my son at a Snetterton charity event
today.
